Cemetery Headstones
The Burial Authority's policy in respect of allowed headstone and monument design and materials is set out in the Cemetery Regulations and Headstone Application form as might be amended from time to time. Please refer to these regulations and formal application for all detailed information before completing and submitting an application to install a headstone or monument.
All headstones must be prepared and fitted by an approved stone mason based upon the prior agreement and acceptance of materials and words used by the Burial Authority. All headstones and monuments must be appropriately mounted in compliance with topple test standards and anchor fixings on the concrete plinth provided by the authority in the marked and numbered situation allocated.
All fixing work must be sensitive to other cemetery users and no work can be undertaken in proximity to any burial service or after 4:00 p.m.
The Council does not recommend or approve Stone Masons, it is expected that only reputable local masons will be used who are conversant with the requirements of the Burial Authority.
All headstones and monuments will be subject to Health and Safety requirements, formal notices are on display in the cemetery. Each month monuments and headstones will be subjected to a topple test and based upon 28 day notice period to registered owners made safe. All reinstatement costs will be the responsibility of the grave plot owner. Letters identifying a test failure will be sent to owners based upon the registered information held. No further notices will be issued and no liability whatsoever will pass to the Burial Authority if an owner can not be contacted or works have to be undertaken to make a headstone safe.
